The Oppo Find X5 is a meticulously thought-out flagship smartphone, with a keen price to match. Cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S22 and £300 less than the Pro version, the regular Find X5 is a bit of a steal, and it’s definitely worthy of a place among the best in the business. Hitting the same high notes as its more expensive counterpart, the Find X5 excels in practically every area, with a long-lasting (and fast-charging) battery, a stunning design and a great, colour-accurate display. Even the use of the last-gen Snapdragon 888 isn’t much of a downer, providing rapid performance in our tests. The only real criticism is the lack of an IP rating, but if you can look past this you’ll be rewarded with a truly terrific flagship at an unbeatable price.

It offered a decent charging experience, reaching 80% in only 25 minutes and providing high additional autonomy when charging for 5 minutes. The wireless charging experience was also good, charging 22 minutes faster than the other wireless-charging phones in our database. Although the device provided 2 days of autonomy, an average showing overall, the Find X5’s particularly weak areas were its low autonomy during on-the-go tests and its high discharge current when streaming music. For a device in the Ultra-premium segment, the Oppo Find X5’s strongest performance was in charging, which provided an autonomy that was slightly above average in its segment, despite a poor showing in on-the-go results.

But its crowning glory is the camera system which can take some truly excellent shots. There are a couple of minor downsides but nothing can take away from the fact that this is a fantastic piece of kit.

The Oppo Find X5 is a fantastic phone with lots to offer across the board, but it especially thrives at taking photos using its advanced three-lens camera system. Alongside that, you also get a sleek curved screen and massive battery life with super-fast charging so you’ll never be caught short again. Admittedly the design on the back isn’t going to wow anyone but most people will cover that up with a case anyway. I would definitely recommend the Oppo Find X5 and actually, I think it’s a better buy than the Pro model if you don’t want such a big screen, you don’t mind losing out a little on display quality and you're not fussed about your next phone being waterproof.

At this price, it’s hard to criticise the Oppo Find X5. It looks good, feels very well built, has a bright, vivid screen that’s great for entertainment, brilliant cameras on the whole, and performs just as well as any flagship. No matter how hard you push it, there’s never any stutter or lag. It is possible to find areas where improvements could have been made, though not necessarily at this price. Chief among these is the lack of an IP rating, so you need to be careful not to get the phone too wet. The cheaper Pixel 6 as well as the more expensive Galaxy S22 are both IP68 rated. The Find X5 isn’t alone though: the Xiaomi 12 also isn't IP-rated. Elsewhere, you could find cause to moan about the fact storage isn’t expandable and that the 256GB model is the only choice. You might even say the Find X5 is a little too expensive and that the telephoto lens has only a 2x zoom. But with rivals failing to offer anything noticeably better for the same cost, the X5 surely deserves a place on your short list along with those already mentioned, plus others such as the OnePlus 10 Pro.

But the sad reality is that Oppo's brand recognition is what gets in the way. The company is trying to sell the handset at a price close to €1,000, which is a barrier only a few manufacturers dare to cross. And those are usually the ones that made a name for themselves. Oppo may be a premium brand in China, but it struggles to compete with the likes of Samsung, Apple and even Xiaomi. In fact, the sister OEM OnePlus still hasn't crossed that line. If the Find X5 gets a significant price cut down the road, it might be worth considering. For now, it's asking way too much for being a nice phone but not a great flagship.

Like for the X5 Pro, Swedish camera makers Hasselblad have contributed to the development and a Marisilicon X neural processing unit helps with image processing. Both primary and ultra-wide cameras feature 50MP 1/1.56″ image sensors, while the 12MP tele unit uses a smaller 1/3.4″ sensor. An iPhone 14 Pro Max costs roughly the same money and features fantastic sound and picture quality, as well as an equally solid build and feature set, and the Sony Xperia 1 IV is another great option if you prioritise picture and sound quality. Still, if you’re determined to go with an outsider choice for your next phone and sound quality isn’t much of a priority, the Oppo Find X5 Pro is certainly worth a look.

Find X5 Pro could afford to improve its zoom cameras further (though it's sufficiently good enough as it is), and Oppo could also consider making a UI that doesn't look like it came out of a kid's storybook. The effort that went into copying Apple's Memojis could've gone elsewhere, too. Also, the phone's design also needs to catch up with the times (ironic, given that their Apple-inspired Reno7 Pro mid-range handset looks better than the Find X5 Pro). But those are just nice to have, and not a must to succeed. Its S$1,699 sticker price may stop some people in their tracks, but here's why it's a decent buy: it outperforms the Galaxy S22 series marginally in battery life and its performance is (at the time of writing) top of the charts, thanks to its heat management techniques. It doesn't have a stylus like the Galaxy S22 Ultra, but it has 1440p LTPO AMOLED display unlike the 1080p+ resolution on the Galaxy S22+. For that, the price feels less outrageous, even if the Oppo phone doesn't have Samsung's all-encompassing device and software ecosystem or security protections.

At a glance, the Oppo Find X5 Pro could easily be mistaken for its predecessor. It uses the same unibody design that integrates the rear camera into the body of the phone and even measures in at near identical dimensions and weight. However the X5 Pro’s back panel is now made of a ceramic material rather than glass, which feels nicer to the touch and is less prone to fingerprints. The downside is that the phone feels much slipperier in the hand and the phone slides off surfaces that aren’t level. Thankfully Oppo includes a transparent silicon case in the box as well as a beastly 80W fast charger (more on that later). The Find X5 Pro comes in two colourways – a ‘glaze black’ or a ‘ceramic white’, which is the variant I received for review. Overall, it’s a solid enough design but there’s nothing particularly striking about it to make it stand out from the sea of glass slab phones on the market. I would’ve loved to have seen Oppo offer a vegan leather finish similar to what they did with the Find X2 Pro but the company has chosen to play it safe this time around.

An iPhone 13 Pro Max costs roughly the same money and features fantastic sound and picture quality, as well as an equally solid build and feature set, and the Sony Xperia 1 III is another great option if you prioritise picture and sound quality. You might also want to consider waiting for the Xperia 1 IV, which is just around the corner and could be even better. Still, if you’re determined to go with an outsider choice for your next phone and sound quality isn’t much of a priority, the Oppo Find X5 Pro is certainly worth a look.

Performance is still in the same ballpark unless you’re a serious gamer, the futuristic design is ironically very similar, charging support is improved but not really any faster, and Color OS 12 is a little further refined but still bloated in places. Even so, this certainly doesn’t detract from the fact that the Oppo Find X5 Pro is an excellent phone. Oppo has clearly focused its most meaningful changes in the camera department, particularly with its custom Marisilicon X chip and Hasselblad partnership. Oppo is taking photography more seriously, removing gimmicks like the microlens, but the results are still hit and miss. Case in point, the camera performance is definitely the best thing on the device, alongside the sleek and beautiful design, powerful chipset and crazy fast recharging speed. As much as I was annoyed by the amount of bloatware, you can now remove them in the settings. The battery performance could have been better too, but I was testing its capacity pretty hard, so it would likely perform longer under more normal conditions. On the other hand, the RM4999 price is somewhat a difficult price tag to justify. Many users would comment that you might as well top up a few Ringgit to get an iPhone 13 Pro but even if you discard that, there's still the Samsung Galaxy S22+ that is equally impressive at RM4299 as well as the Xiaomi 12 Pro for just RM3899 with similar tech specs and features. Another competitor is the vivo X80 Pro 5G for the same price but I haven't tested it yet. I think at the end of the day, it really depends on your budget. If you do have the budget and you're an OPPO fan, why not?

Preinstalled bloatware issues aside, the Find X5 Pro has one of, if not—the—best rear camera systems I've seen on a phone yet, especially in low-light situations. You can get some simply stunning images and videos from this, period. But if selfies are your primary thing, the front camera doesn't quite cut it. With a premium build quality and ludicrously fast charging, the 120Hz AMOLED screen also makes using the phone a joy. Regardless of whether you'll be gaming on it or not, you'll love the smoothness of the UI. The only real consideration is whether you can afford to drop $1000 on a new phone at a time when the price of everything is rising, but the claimed longevity of the battery and high performance helps to justify the long-term value. If the answer is yes, and you want the best images you’ve ever seen from a smartphone, then I would highly recommend the Find X5 Pro.

Taken in isolation, the Oppo Find X5 Pro is a fine flagship Android phone. While I wasn’t blown away by the Find X5 Pro’s cameras, they are still very good. And the combination of powerful performance, a gorgeous display and still-fresh design makes the Find X5 Pro rather appealing. But such phones don’t exist in a vacuum, with the flagship competition being ever-more fierce. For starters, I don’t think the Find X5 Pro offers enough of an upgrade for people with the Find X3 Pro, especially when it comes to design and features. Equally, I feel the X5 Pro doesn't do enough to stand out from its rivals, which have broadly comparable specs, especially given the price Oppo wants people to pay. The Pixel 6 Pro is smarter with great photography performance. The iPhone 13 Pro Max is more consistent with class-leading video. The Galaxy S22 Ultra is more feature packed and has that standout Note-design. If it was my money, I’d choose Google’s phone.

The Oppo Find X5 Pro’s audio performance was quite average for an Ultra-Premium flagship smartphone. Its strong suit is in recording, particularly when compared with its predecessor, the Find X3 Pro, where it made significant advances in spatial and volume attributes. But audio on the Oppo Find X5 Pro is prone to occlusion, whether in playback or recording. For example, the speakers can be completely occluded in a gaming scenario, as well as during a selfie recording in landscape orientation. For everyday recordings, sounds are generally artifacts-free. With Dolby’s SFX activated by default, one tip is to use the “movie” preset for any use case because it results in a clear and bright sound.

Then, there's the fact that it offers really fast 150W fast charging and also hides beneath the surface flagship-grade hardware in the form of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. The cameras on the phone are also positive, with the Find X5 Pro generally clicking really impressive shots using its primary lens. And did I forget about the display? Yes, to complete the package the Find X5 Pro also has one of the most colour accurate panels on a phone right now.

I’ve seen some examples of crazy nighttime photos and videos so we’re eager to try that out. Other than that, the Oppo Find X5 Pro looks like a real capable phone with beautiful looks and hardware to back it up. Hopefully, this is true after we get more time playing around with it and whether or not it’s worth your time and money to import one.

So what are the downsides, other than the price? Well, there aren't really many at all, and none of them are dealbreakers. If you have small hands then this may feel like a bit of a giant to you, and if you tend to use up a lot of your phone storage very quickly then you might be put off by the fact that there’s no way to expand it using a MicroSD card, although not many flagships do have that now. Another reason you may not like it is the fact that the interface isn’t quite as sleek as stock Android, but even then, you’ll soon get used to Color OS. All in all, the Oppo Find X5 Pro is a fantastic piece of kit that is bang up to date in just about every area - quite frankly, it would be hard not to love it.

Oppo Find X5 Pro First Impressions: A Stunningly Designed Flagship

This camera has autofocus, which means it can be used for extreme close-ups or macro shots. The third camera is a 13-megapixel telephoto camera with 2X optical zoom and up to 20X digital zoom. For selfies, there's a 32-megapixel front camera. Judging by some of the camera samples you see above from the limited time I spent taking photos, the Oppo Find X5 Pro seems to a reliable shooter. The phone can record video at up to 4K with some impressive stabilisation if you use the main camera. This camera has autofocus, which means it can be used for extreme close-ups or macro shots. The third camera is a 13-megapixel telephoto camera with 2X optical zoom and up to 20X digital zoom. For selfies, there's a 32-megapixel front camera. Judging by some of the camera samples you see above from the limited time I spent taking photos, the Oppo Find X5 Pro seems to a reliable shooter. The phone can record video at up to 4K with some impressive stabilisation if you use the main camera. The OPPO Find X5 Pro is an excellent all-rounder flagship. I love its refined, sort of understated design, and the tremendous ultra-wide camera. However, as I said at the beginning, I am disappointed with the phone losing the micro-lens from last year’s edition, as well as having a relatively mediocre zoom. I could forgive this if the device was priced a bit lower than premium flagship territory, but it’s not. The OPPO Find X5 Pro’s €1,299/£1,049 price in Europe/UK makes it more expensive than the Galaxy S22 Ultra. I have no doubt these European prices are due to the usual tariffs, that in Asia the phone will likely be priced lower than the Galaxy S22 Ultra, but it’s still jarring to see the European prices. Still, if you’re on the market for a premium Android with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and you find the S22 Ultra too unwieldy to hold — or if you don’t care about zooming 10x or beyond — then the OPPO Find X5 Pro is a very worthy alternative.

The Oppo Find X5 Pro doesn’t feel like a huge upgrade over its predecessor. This is an iterative change with a few upgrades and tweaks, but no big eye-catching differences. Even so, it’s not too hard to reconcile the phone’s target market with its relatively steep price tag — in the UK, at least. At £1,049, we’re talking just below Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max money, which is just right given that the Find X5 Pro doesn’t quite offer the same ultra-premium photography suite and overall software ecosystem. Not to mention that these two are the best in the business when it comes to long-term support for their flagship products. Things are more questionable in Europe, where the €1,299 price tag overshoots its big-name rivals. Nevertheless, I can recommend the Find X5 Pro to anyone who digs a unique design and loves to customize the look and feel of their mobile experience. There’s personality here that you don’t get elsewhere. Spend a few minutes kicking the bloatware off the phone and Color OS 12 is a really lovely piece of software to use in isolation. Combined with ultra-fast charging, battery longevity, and a smattering of other improvements, there’s a wonderfully imperfect phone here for those who can get on board with Oppo’s futuristic vision.

On the whole, while not entirely groundbreaking and new, the Find X5 Pro is clearly an evolution of the Find X3 Pro. The ceramic finish on the back is fancy, and should prove more long lasting than the glass. Perhaps that’s a big part of the story: longevity. With the more durable finish and more durable battery, and other optimisations in software, you may have a great phone for a few years, rather than just two years. As far as specs and hardware go, it’s up there with the best of them, and we think a lot of people will like the customisation available in the software.

The Reno7 5G a.k.a. Find X5 Lite is an excellent smartphone with a well-rounded feature set and reasonable pricing. Sure, there are better phones out there at the same price, but there are weaker, too. The Reno7 5G/Find X5 Lite offers an excellent 90Hz AMOLED screen, bright and responsive. The Dimensity 900 5G chipset is more than adequate for smooth gaming on the go, and coupled with the large battery, it delivers great battery life. We can also praise the cooling and the overall stability of the device. The camera is another aspect that gave us only positive experiences. The photo and video quality across all cameras are very good, and the hardware is consistently reliable. We liked the design, too, even if it's mostly plastic. The LDI process on the blue version is cool and makes for a unique effect and feel on touch. And while flashy, it is still pleasant to look at and can easily match any style - official or casual. Not all is perfect with the Reno7 5G - there are no stereo speakers, no obvious updates over the Reno6 5G, and no ingress protection whatsoever.

The sharp 6.43-inch screen is fantastic, its performance matches up to its mid-range rivals, the compact sizing makes it comfortable to hold and the three-lens rear camera system will surprise you with the quality of shots it can take. But, none of those points are what makes this phone stand out. It’s the combination of two-day battery life and super-fast charging that makes this handset really worth a look. Granted the Oppo Find X5 Lite does have a few flaws to contend with like the weak zoom, the so-so speaker and the lack of an IP rating - and to add to that, the competition right now at this price point is fierce. But even so, this is a fantastic affordable handset with tonnes to offer.

The Oppo Find X5 Lite’s web browsing lacked smoothness, which was a distraction when using the screen in its most basic function. The display’s brightness levels are programmed to be adapted to the time of day. While brightness was well suited in low light during the day, we found it to be a bit dim during the night. However, light transitions were correct. The BLF also gave the screen a noticeable orange cast. In outdoor and indoor conditions, the device lacked enough brightness for comfortable reading. In addition, pink and blue stripes were visible on the screen when viewing at an angle. For gamers, the display offered an average experience, with just a few visible frame drops when playing and accurate touch, which offset the aliasing and lack of smoothness when playing. Watching HDR10 videos on the Oppo Find X5 Lite was a poor experience because of the screen’s green cast and very saturated colors. In addition, the low brightness and the low level of details in the dark tones affected the HDR experience

Oppo has considerably improved the battery performance of its new Find X5 series, especially with the Find X5 Lite. Compared with its predecessor the Find X3 Lite, which fared poorly in battery performance with a score of 68, the X5 Lite has proven to be very well-balanced. Autonomy was decent overall, offering more than 2 days of moderate use and excellent on-the-go performances. In playback, the X5 Lite was hampered having only one speaker, which affects its performance in more than one attribute. Oppo Find X5 Lite Display test

The Oppo Find X5 Lite’s web browsing lacked smoothness, which was a distraction when using the screen in its most basic function. The display’s brightness levels are programmed to be adapted to the time of day. While brightness was well suited in low light during the day, we found it to be a bit dim during the night. However, light transitions were correct. The BLF also gave the screen a noticeable orange cast. In outdoor and indoor conditions, the device lacked enough brightness for comfortable reading. In addition, pink and blue stripes were visible on the screen when viewing at an angle. For gamers, the display offered an average experience, with just a few visible frame drops when playing and accurate touch, which offset the aliasing and lack of smoothness when playing. Watching HDR10 videos on the Oppo Find X5 Lite was a poor experience because of the screen’s green cast and very saturated colors. In addition, the low brightness and the low level of details in the dark tones affected the HDR experience

Qualcomm Adreno 660: Graphics chip for smartphones and tablets that is integrated within the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC. Qualcomm claims that it is 35% faster than the Adreno 650 in the Snapdragon 865 SoC and offers a 20% better power efficiency.For Android it should be one of the fastest graphics cards in 2021.
