Reviews for the Oppo A54 5G
Cheap 5G smartphones are no longer a rarity. But the Oppo A54 5G offers very promising features that go beyond the latest mobile standard for less than 300 Euros (~$354). Our review clarifies exactly what these are.

The Oppo A54 5G is no doubt a good phone. You get reliable performance, a solid 90Hz Full HD+ display, strong battery life and most importantly, 5G connectivity at an affordable price. While it's not the fastest budget phone out there, and cameras could be better, it's perfectly fine for day-to-day social media use and browsing. Gamers may want to look elsewhere though. If you're looking for 5G on a budget then the A54 5G is easy to recommend – but given 5G service isn't prevalent everywhere, your money can go farther with a similarly priced 4G alternative.

Oppo is carving out a good niche in being a reliable Android phone manufacturer for those on a budget. The Oppo A54 5G continues that trend, offering a range of features (including 5G support) at an affordable price so that more of us can enjoy the benefits of things like 5G, a 90Hz screen, and a decent primary camera for less. There are concessions, of course. The Oppo A54 5G looks like most of the other Oppo phones out there, from the Oppo A53 to the Oppo Find X3 Neo - fine yet not exactly exciting - and two of the four rear cameras are pretty weak.

The Oppo A54 5G is another example of a new breed of affordable phone that offers 5G connectivity and stellar battery life at an extremely low price. As ever, however, you really need to read the small print before you decide whether the inevitable trade-offs are acceptable to you.

Oppo A54 5G has a higher Efficiency score than its Vivo and Motorola competitors (and many other devices as well), and a decent score for Autonomy. However, its small charger (and resulting slow charging times across the board) holds it back from achieving a better overall score.

Qualcomm Adreno 619: Integrated (in the Snapdragon 750G) graphics card based on the Adreno 600 architecture. The performance is a lot better than the old Adreno 612.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

It is a small display format for smartphones. You shouldn't be severely defective in vision, and you won't see much detail on the screen and only have a small resolution available. For that, the device should be small and handy, easy to transport.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.72.79%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
