OnePlus originally launched the 9R 5G last year in India alongside the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro. The OnePlus 9R was largely considered to be a redux of the OnePlus 8T as it featured similar specifications save for the slight bump in the SoC from the Snapdragon 865 to the Snapdragon 870.
Now, after launching the OnePlus 9RT late last year in China with tangible spec upgrades, OnePlus is now introducing a global variant of the device in India.
The OnePlus 9RT 5G is now based on the Snapdragon 888 and comes with up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 memory and 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage bringing the device more in line with the OnePlus 9. OnePlus said that the 9RT offers the largest cooling system in a OnePlus phone yet with a thermal dissipation area of about 19,067.44 mm2, which should enable a 20% more efficient heat dissipation compared to that of the OnePlus 9 series.
On the display front, we get a 6.62-inch FHD+ Samsung E4 AMOLED display that can offer up to 1,300 nits of peak brightness and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Additionally, the OnePlus 9RT's display also covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and comes with HDR10+ support and a touch sampling rate of 600 Hz.
The camera system also gets a good spec bump from the original 9R. The 9RT now offers a 50 MP Sony IMX766 f/1.8 primary camera with optical image stabilization and 4K 60 video recording. The 9R, on the other hand, offered a 48 MP Sony IMX586 sensor. The 9RT additionally offers a 16 MP 123° ultra-wide lens and a 2 MP macro lens. A separate monochrome lens is not available in the 9RT. The front camera is a 16 MP f/2.4 Sony IMX471 similar to the rest of the 9 series.
OnePlus said that it is also bringing several improvements on the image processing side. There's an enhanced Nightscape mode and a dynamic overlap HDR (DOL-HDR) for better dynamic range in videos, which is also present in the OnePlus 9 Pro. A 4,600 mAh battery that supports Warp Charge 65T fast charging and OxygenOS 11 form the rest of the package.
The OnePlus 9RT 5G will be available in Hacker Black and Nano Silver color options and will retail for ₹42,999 (US$578) for the 8 GB+128 GB variant and ₹46,999 (US$632) for the 12 GB+256 GB option. Open sales will begin from January 17 while early access sales will begin from 12 AM IST on January 16 on Amazon.in and OnePlus.in. Customers in India can avail of several bank/credit card discounts alongside other offers.
OnePlus Buds Z2
Apart from the OnePlus 9RT, the company also launched the OnePlus Buds Z2 featuring larger 11 mm dynamic drivers, triple microphones, Dolby Atmos support, and up to 40 dB noise cancellation. Similar to the OnePlus Buds Pro, the Buds Z2 also offer three different noise cancellation modes including Faint (+/-25 dB), Extreme (+/-40 dB), and Transparency.
OnePlus promises a low latency of 94 ms on OnePlus devices with Pro Gaming mode enabled and up to 38 hours of battery life. A Flash Charge of 10 minutes can yield up to 5 hours of listening time.
The OnePlus Buds Z2 will be available in Obsidian Black and Pearl White for ₹4,999 (US$67) from 12 AM IST on January 17 for Red Cable Club members on oneplus.in with general availability from January 18. Early access buyers also stand to win a OnePlus 9RT 5G smartphone.
