The Omibo Smart Video Pin shows what a pin could look like in the 21st century. Its round touchscreen allows it to display moving images and change the video shown with a single touch. The illuminated display promises good readability even in low light conditions.

Whether it's to show team spirit at a sporting event, make a statement, or cheer someone on, pins have always been a popular way to identify with a group. The Omibo Smart Video Pin is designed to eliminate the need to keep buying new pins, as the printed surface is simply replaced by a display.

The round display with a diagonal of 1.8 inches is said to offer HD resolution, but the manufacturer provides no further technical details. Given the price and the hands-on videos, it's likely a conventional IPS panel with backlighting. While this looks stylish indoors, the readability of such a screen in bright daylight is significantly worse compared to a MiP or E Ink display.

Furthermore, LCD screens consume a comparatively large amount of power. While a MiP display without backlighting should allow for a battery life of several days to weeks, an LCD is expected to last only a few hours; the manufacturer does not specify how long the 400 mAh battery will last. Charging is done via USB-C. With 2 GB of internal storage and an optional microSD card (up to 32 GB), hundreds of video clips can be stored directly on the pin. The pin can be attached to clothing either with a safety pin or magnetically.

Price and availability

The Omibo Smart Video Pin is currently being funded on Kickstarter. As part of the campaign, the pin costs HKD 305 (approx. $39) plus shipping, import VAT and customs duties. Delivery is expected to begin in May 2026. As this is the manufacturer's first Kickstarter project, there is some risk involved in supporting crowdfunding campaigns, including that the eventuality that the product may not work as advertised or not make it to market at all.
