OPPO Find X7 series slated to launch as first-gen AndesGPT smartphones
OPPO called its latest press conference the "Find X7 Product Technology" communique, yet did not introduce its latest flagship Android smartphones outright. However, it has effectively confirmed that the upcoming flagship smartphones will leverage their new chipsets' unprecedented support for AI processes by formally introducing the basis for the OEM's new search companion.
It has debuted as AndesGPT, thereby underpinning OPPO's tradition of naming the final products of its software and services R&D after global landmarks. Its "7 billion parameter" model is backed to result in responses with a latency of as little as 0.2 seconds, thereby surpassing the industry standard "by a factor of 20" - presuming the required response has a length of 200 words, that is.
Then again, it is also estimated to generate 14,000 words at 3.5x the speed of competing models, according to OPPO. AndesGPT is also touted to produce high-res images with convincing light and shadow in as few as 6 seconds, or 60% faster than average. Furthermore, it has apparently been optimized for devices such as smartphones as a result of "close collaboration" with chip manufacturers such as Qualcomm.
The resulting "Tiny" iteration of AndesGPT is projected to become overshadowed by even bigger iterations of 70 billion, then 180 billion, parameters (to be introduced as its "Turbo" and "Titan" variants respectively) over time. In the meantime, this first-gen model is now slated to debut on the Find X7, if not the rumored X7 Pro Ultra top-end upgrade, in early 2024.
