Nvidia continues to dominate Steam hardware survey's most popular GPU list

Steam's hardware and software survey results for January 2025 are here, and in terms of the GPU, there's not really a major shift. Nvidia is still dominating the chart, with the RTX 3060 desktop being the most popular option among gamers. It's followed by the RTX 4060 Laptop GPU.

Like the recent survey results, there aren't many AMD Radeon GPUs in the list. As a matter of fact, the Radeon RX 6600, RX 580, and RX 6700XT are the only discrete options that have made it to the top 40 positions. There are multiple AMD iGPUs in between, but the Steam hardware survey doesn't specify which integrated GPU they are.

However, the one sitting among the topmost positions is likely the Radeon 780M, which is inside a good number of gaming handhelds (Legion Go curr. $549.99 on Amazon). Of course, there could be more discrete AMD GPUs in the future lists after the Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT are out. These will be in the RDNA 4 lineup, and they are set to go against the RTX 4070 and RTX 4070 Super.

But then again, the first batch of the RTX 50 series is available now, and Nvidia is gearing up to launch more Blackwell GPUs later in February. If these can attract as many gamers as the mid-to-high tier RTX 40 series cards, there could be a noticeable change in Steam hardware survey results towards the end of the year.

As for the CPU side, the latest Steam hardware survey shows that Intel is still in the lead. Software-wise, Windows 11 currently has 53.46% of the share, while Windows 10 is still installed on most gamer's systems, coming with a 42.87% share in the latest survey.
