A scalper or frustrated crypto miner has put three Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 graphics cards up for sale on the Belarusian site Onliner, which is often used as an online marketplace for tech hardware. As spotted by VideoCardz, the poster has uploaded two photos showing the three boards stacked in a neat pile. One of the images reveals the barcodes for the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3060 Eagle OC boards, which could cause issues for the reseller if tracked. The current asking price for these Gigabyte variants of the GeForce RTX 3060 is 2,800 Belarusian rubles (US$1,080/€891/£770).
The GeForce RTX 3060 is to be launched on February 25, so not only is the scalper/miner selling the boards at ridiculously high prices, but they also managed to get hold of the units before the official release date. The listing text explains that one of the boards was “unpacked for inspection”, with it being suggested that this was done to test the card’s efficacy in regard to crypto mining. As Nvidia has restricted the crypto mining usefulness of the GeForce RTX 3060, it’s possible the seller simply now wants to offload the boards on to someone willing to pay a huge price for one.
It’s also just as possible that the seller is a scalper already taking advantage of the likelihood of GeForce RTX 3060 stock being very light on the ground on February 25. Regardless of the seller’s original motive, scalping or crypto mining, asking the equivalent of over US$1,000 for an item with an MSRP of US$329 (€329 in many European countries; £299 in the UK) is simply objectionable. However, you can be sure that if Nvidia hasn’t released enough stock to its board partners and resellers for launch day, there will be buyers for these overpriced cards.
