Nubia Ice Cream cooler hits stores for $14 with -18°C cooling

Nubia introduced the compact accessory on September 5, with proper sales starting today, on September 11. It uses cooling hardware based on the company’s Red Magic gaming accessories and is designed to attach directly to compatible smartphones magnetically.

The cooler features a 36 × 36mm thermoelectric cooling plate, a cold-forged aluminum heatsink and an aluminum heat-spreading layer. 

The accessory is said to dissipate up to 25W of waste heat and can deliver a temperature reduction as significant as -18°C. Nubia claims it can reduce a phone’s temperature by up to 60°C under load, which could help during extended gaming, fast charging, livestreaming and outdoor use.

A seven-blade fan handles heat removal and spins at up to 6,000 RPM. The airflow is directed through the cooler rather than toward the user's hands when holding the phone horizontally.

The system combines a thermoelectric plate, aligned closely with a heatsink, airflow channels, fan and copper heat-transfer components. The company claims the design improves conversion efficiency by 72%. The cooler also has an RGB light with several lighting effects.

For mounting, the cooler uses strong neodymium magnets. Nubia also includes clips for phones without magnetic attachment, while a 1/4-inch screw mount allows it to be attached to a tripod or livestreaming rig.

The accessory supports both Android and Apple devices as well as tablets. RedMagic has previously unveiled magnetic smartphone coolers, with its Magnetic Cooler 6 Pro claiming temperatures as low as -16°C and up to 30W heat dissipation. 

Nubia's cooler regular price is 159 yuan, around $22, but the current introductory price in China is 99 yuan, or roughly $14. Sellers on platforms such as Aliexpress charge significantly more.
