Nexus Launcher becomes Pixel Launcher

Pixel Launcher now available, formerly known as Nexus Launcher

Since Pixel handsets running Nexus Launcher would not seem right, Google has also decided to rename this app to Pixel Launcher.

Although Google still has to unveil the first Pixel handsets, it looks like everything is settled - the Nexus brand is as good as dead. Nexus Launcher has just become Pixel Launcher, and those interested can grab it already and take it for a spin, thanks to ROM developer LlabTooFeR.

The first Pixel Launcher version is almost the same as the last Nexus Launcher iteration available, but it carries a different version number and a few minor changes. For example, the Calendar icon is now dynamic. However, the UI does not come with any noticeable changes overall.

In the end, it looks like Google will simply move forward with Pixel and will drop all Nexus-related products. For now, nothing is official yet, but the debut of the Pixel smartphone family is expected to take place in early October. We will probably hear more about them in the meantime, so stay tuned.
