GPD has just started shipping the Win 4, a Ryzen 7 6800U-powered gaming handheld that we reviewed earlier this month. While GPD has not finished shipping the Win 4 yet, Cary Golomb, also known as The Phawx, has revealed the company's plans for a Win 2 successor. Arguably, the teaser images shown look like a cross between the Win Max 2 and Win 2, rather than just the Win 2 itself.
Specifically, the device pictured has a trackpad at the top of its keyboard deck, mirroring the Win Max 2. It also sits between gamepad buttons in another similarity with the Win Max 2, as well as the Win 2. GPD has added five buttons between the keyboard and gamepad buttons too, which the teaser images show as START, SELECT, MENU, H1 and H2. The 5-row keyboard layout remains, but there are a full set of function row keys, not F1 through F6 like the Win 2.
Evidently, the unnamed gaming handheld runs Windows, denoted by the recognisable Windows key. For some reason, GPD has used the Windows key that shipped with Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Presumably, the lack of Windows 11-branding is an oversight and not a suggestion that the device will launch with Windows 10. GPD has overhauled the hinge mechanism as well, which is much narrower than the equivalent on the Win 2. Unfortunately, all other details are unknown for the time being. Golomb states that he will be able to share specifications and screenshots soon, although it remains to be seen when that will be the case.
