New report reaffirms Samsung Galaxy S22 FE cancellation rumours
Critics, fans and enthusiasts overwhelming agreed that the Galaxy S21 FE arrived a bit too late, especially with Samsung opting to launch the Galaxy S series earlier than previous release cycles. While the phone sold decently in some markets, Samsung doesn't seem to be interested in making any more "Fan Edition" smartphones anymore, according to a new report.
Sammobile has heard from multiple sources that the Galaxy S22 FE has been shelved entirely. It sits in line with an earlier report out of South Korea which also suggested the same thing. Samsung usually starts working on firmware for future devices well ahead of time, and nothing has been written for the Galaxy S22 FE so far. Additionally, internet leakers have been silent about it, too. However, some rumours about the smartphone running a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC emerged at some point, only to be debunked later.
Samsung's decision to cancel the Galaxy S22 FE may come as a disappointment to many, but it makes sense. The initial idea behind FE-branded devices was to offer a quintessential flagship experience at an affordable price. However, the price differences between a base Galaxy S variant and a Fan Edition smartphone were quite nominal, effectively rendering the latter redundant. Additionally, Samsung might not have access to enough Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chips at hand, given Samsung Foundries' abysmal 4 nm yields.
