New Toyota bZ Sport Crossover and FlexSpace concept EVs announced
Toyota has unveiled the bZ Sport Crossover and bZ FlexSpace concept EVs at Auto Shanghai. As the names suggest, the two new electric vehicles are part of the bZ line-up alongside the existing bZ4X and bZ3 models.
The bZ Sport Crossover is a battery electric vehicle developed jointly with BYD. The car features a yoke, a digital dashboard and an unusual, curved infotainment screen. The company says it has designed the car for a younger audience, aiming to provide personal space for the driver and passengers. Toyota suggests that OTA updates will provide post-purchase features like intelligent driver assistance and park assist, though it is unclear whether customers would need to pay to unlock these tools.
The bZ FlexSpace has been designed for families, this time in partnership with GAC (Guangzhou Automobile Group Co). The EV offers a voluminous cabin with features such as a heads-up display, a holographic infotainment system and another steering yoke. For this SUV, Toyota promises smart driving assistance and “a reliable cruising range”. The company plans to launch the bZ Sport Crossover and bZ FlexSpace EVs in China in 2024. Further details, including the EVs’ drivetrains, exact launch date and pricing, are yet to be revealed. Whether or when the vehicles will go on sale in other markets remains unclear.
