New Tesla update brings custom scroll wheel actions like taking calls and Zoom meetings with the cabin cam
Tesla has answered the desires of many an EV owner and introduced custom scroll wheel actions in its latest 2023.12.1.1 software update that is rolling out now. By going into the setting menu and choosing the Controls -> Display -> Scroll Wheel Function option, users can now open the glove box, adjust brightness and Acceleration Mode, fire up the Camera App and save footage recorded with the Dashcam.
Really useful stuff, but the wonders of the left scroll button on the steering wheel don't stop here. After letting you control the windshield wiper speed on your Tesla, the left scroll button now makes itself useful while receiving a phone call, too. The driver can either take the call with the scroll wheel, decline it, or mute it while already in the conversation.
Speaking of calls, Tesla is also bringing the teased Zoom meeting feature in the 2023.12.1.1 software update. If there is a Zoom meeting synced in the calendar, participants can now log in by tapping on the link there, and using the Tesla cabin cam for video recording. The interior camera can't be used for Zoom meetings while the car is in motion, though, as then the Tesla will automatically switch to audio-only participation. The Tesla Zoom call feature comes with all the usual caveats about driving and paying attention to your surroundings at all times.
Other new 2023.12.1.1 software update features include comfort options like the ability to adjust the passenger seat from the rear touchscreen in order to get out of the Tesla easier, and more air suspension controls. There are now also chimes to indicate when the Tesla has shifted in a different gear for a bit of an audible reminder if you are not looking at the indicator.
The 2023.12.1.1 release is already rolling out to Tesla users and should gradually bring all models - young and old - up to an update that is filled with new user-facing features to the gills.
