Two new Garmin smartwatch features appear to have been leaked. The rumors arrived in the wake of the release of the Forerunner 570 and Forerunner 970, which brought new tools like Evening Report, Running tolerance and Running economy.
Now, a report by the5krunner indicates that Garmin will bring new walking and swimming workouts to some smartwatches. These could be new Daily Suggested Workouts. However, the swim workouts could also be linked to the recently announced Garmin Triathlon Coach for the Forerunner 970 (curr. $749.99 at Amazon). This Garmin Connect app feature provides users with a free training plan to help them reach a fitness goal or prepare for a race.
The rumored swim workouts are said to help users to develop their technique and stamina. They offer various intensities, and some are suitable for open water swimming. Plus, there are recovery sessions to help your body recover and timed workouts to test you ahead of an event. This information broadly mirrors the ‘Swim Workouts’ section on the dedicated Garmin Triathlon Coach page.
It is unclear whether the new walking workouts could also be linked to a Garmin Coach training plan. Again, the walk workouts are said to be offered in a range of intensities and durations, with interval training and recovery based sessions. There also appear to be workouts linked to boosting mental wellness, promoting breathing awareness and getting into nature.
In both instances, the5krunner cites their trusted source @JohnW. It is unclear when these new Garmin swimming and walking workouts will launch and which smartwatches will be compatible.
