New EV offers 626 miles of range and charges from 10% to 97% in 9 minutes

With the so-called Da Han EV, BYD is taking aim at established luxury EVs such as the Mercedes-Benz EQS and BMW i7. According to BYD, the Da Han sedan is 17.3 ft long, produces up to 764 hp and can charge to nearly full in just 9 minutes at compatible fast-charging stations. Presales for the new full-size electric sedan from the Dynasty series start at the equivalent of around $36,900, in China. The flagship all-wheel-drive model costs about $44,300. An official launch in other markets has not yet been announced, but tariffs, shipping and taxes would likely push local retail prices much higher.

The dimensions of 206.9 inches in length, 78.7 inches in width and a 123-inch wheelbase, combined with a drag coefficient of 0.197, put the Da Han EV in the luxury segment. Underneath the body is BYD's second-generation LFP Blade Battery with a capacity of 102.3kWh. For the base rear-wheel-drive model, which produces 370kW (496 hp), the automaker claims a range of up to 626 miles under China's CLTC standard, which typically produces considerably higher figures than Europe's WLTP cycle. The all-wheel-drive version combines two electric motors for a total output of 570kW (764 hp), accelerates from 0 to 100 kph (62 mph) in 3.3 seconds, reaches a top speed of 168 mph and offers a CLTC range of 547 miles. Despite its large dimensions, rear-wheel steering and the DiSus-A air suspension give the sedan a tight turning circle of just 16.2 ft.
