Rumour | New 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMacs due this month; mini-LED iMac Pro bound for Q4 2020
It has been almost a year since Apple refreshed the iMac, with the company bringing Intel Core 8th and 9th generation processors to its 21.5-inch and 27-inch all-in-one desktops. However, that may soon be about to change. Citing @coiiiiiiiin, MacRumors reports that Apple may be on the verge of releasing new iMacs, with an upgraded Mac mini on the cards too.
Better known as CoinX, @coiiiiiiiin has built a track record of leaking details about upcoming Apple devices. The account was the first to claim that Apple would release the iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, for instance. It also correctly predicted that Apple would start selling "Pro" branded iPhones.
The 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMacs are not the only iMacs due a refresh this year, either. Citing Ming-Chi Kuo this time, MacRumors reports that an upgraded iMac Pro is in development too. Reportedly arriving in Q4 2020, one of the big features of the new iMac Pro will be its mini-LED panel. Mini-LED offers about ten times the lighting zones that typical LED panels do, which should yield better contrast ratios and more precise black values.
While an upgraded iMac Pro may be a way off yet, the refreshed regular iMacs may arrive later this month. Apple may launch the latter alongside refreshed iPad Pros and a new "budget" iPhone SE successor, too.
