Ampere GPUs may be back on track for a Q1 2020 release, according to current rumours. Previously slated to arrive in 2H 2020, the likes of the RTX 3070, RTX 3080 and RTX 3080 Ti could arrive as soon as March.

Late last year, we reported that NVIDIA had planned to release Ampere GPUs at the turn of Q2 and Q3 2020. The information came via Wccftech and HKEPC, with Computex 2020 apparently being targeted as the event to showcase consumer Ampere GPUs. By contrast, midrange cards were arriving later in the year, while NVIDIA planned to announce Ampere-based Tesla GPUs at GTC 2020 in March.

However, now a source close to Wccftech claims that NVIDIA will unleash consumer Ampere GPUs alongside Tesla cards at GTC 2020. NVIDIA will host the conference between March 23 and 26 in Silicon Valley. According to the website, its source has been proven correct at least once, which is not much of a glowing endorsement.

The bottom line is that GTC 2020 looks likely to be the first opportunity to witness the Ampere series in some form. We shall keep you updated with more information when it reaches us.
