The Swiss firm ABB appears to believe that robotics is the future. To this end, it has spent US$150 million on a new plant in China. This factory will focus on three main areas: manufacture by automatons, R&D and AI development.

ABB is a Swiss company that is heavily invested in the manufacturing and technology capabilities of China and its industries. Currently, it is planning to build the world's most sophisticated facility for advanced research into robotics. ABB wants this plant to be a world leader in research and development into robotics and robotic manufacturing.

This new factory is also intended for advanced research into AI for robotics and related electronics. Located in Kangqiao, Shanghai, it will house robots that will build others with increased independence. ABB also projects that their new installation will be flexible and efficient in the use of its manufacturing space. It has cost the company US$150 million to build.

This investment would bring the amount of money ABB has sunk into Chinese robotics up to approximately $2.4 billion, which it has invested over the last 26 years. This move is also supported by Shanghai officials as part of the city's current initiative to promote the city as a manufacturing hotspot. The new ABB factory is predicted to open by 2020.
