Mozilla Foundation fires 30% of its staff, shuts down advocacy division
The Mozilla Foundation has shut down its advocacy and global programs divisions. It has also sacked 30% of its staff, according to an internal email sent by executive director Nabiha Syed.
In an email shared with Techcrunch (via Engadget), the company said it is "reorganizing teams to increase agility and impact as we accelerate our work to ensure a more open and equitable technical future for us all."
This is the second round of layoffs to hit the company this year, following the dismissing of 60 people from the Firefox division in February. Despite the closure of the advocacy and global programs divisions, Vice President of Communications Brandon Borrman said, "Advocacy is still a central tenet of Mozilla Foundation's work, and we are in the process of revisiting our approach to it."
In the email to staff, Syed wrote that the company finds itself "in a relentless onslaught of change in the technology (and broader) world, and the idea of putting people before profit feels increasingly radical.”
