While big names like Samsung reported sales below expectations, it looks like Motorola is doing great. Thanks to the Moto G, which is considered by many to be the best Android smartphone for budget-conscious users, the company sold twice as many smartphones during the second quarter of 2014 compared to the same period of last year.
Motorola sold no less than 8.6 million smartphones in the second quarter of this year, up from 6.5 million units in the first quarter. This performance does not push Motorola in the top five yet, but it clearly shows that the company is headed into the right direction. Nick Spencer from ABI Research, one of the market research companies behind these reports, says "If you’d asked me about Motorola a year ago, I would have said it was on a distinct trajectory towards oblivion."
Motorola's current highlights are the Moto E, Moto G and the Moto X. All are handsets that offer a lot for their price, especially when it comes to customization options and software features. While Motorola's sales in the US increased during the last year as well, the company's most solid growth was reported in India and Europe.
