Mojang’s Minecraft “Tiny Takeover” update, released March 24, refreshes baby mobs with fluffier designs and new vocalizations recorded from “real animal voice actors,” including a specialist “cow whisperer” brought in to capture authentic mooing. The patch also adds golden dandelions to prevent baby mobs from growing up, simplifies name tag crafting, and expands music-building options with copper-based note blocks that produce trumpet tones that vary with oxidation.

Mojang just took things to a whole other level with Minecraft’s sound design in its latest update, The Tiny Takeover, which dropped on March 24. The new update gives baby mobs fluffier, chunkier designs with new squeaks, yaps, and chirps. The team achieved all this not by using a sound library but by working with “real animal voice actors.”

Senior product manager at Mojang, Anna Lundgren, spoke to PCGamesN and said that the studio brought in “real animal voice actors” to capture authentic sound effects for wolves, puppies, piglets, baby chickens, and kittens.

Audio designer Sandra Karlsson also shared some behind-the-scenes stories during Minecraft Live 2026, explaining how tricky it can be to work when the studio is teeming with actual animals.

She said, “Sometimes there are a lot of animals, and sometimes they are really big.” To get the perfect cow moos, she explained that Mojang had to hire a professional cow whisperer: “He started to make some kind of ‘Maah’ sound, and the cows started to speak to him immediately.”

The update introduces new sound effects that make your mobs and virtual Minecraft pets feel livelier. It also allows you to keep your baby mobs from growing up by using the new golden dandelion. You can craft it by surrounding a regular dandelion with golden nuggets. Name tags are also easier to craft with just paper and a metal nugget, rather than by hunting for them as rare loot.

Lundgren explained these changes, saying, “Players get attached to the mobs in their worlds, and having more control over their names and appearances will hopefully deepen that bond. Just as in real life, babies have to be protected from harm, but we leave it to the players to figure out how best to do that.”

The new update also introduces a fun feature for experimental builders who like to make music in-game. You can now place a note block on copper, and it will play a trumpet sound. However, the tone of the trumpet changes depending on the oxidation level of the copper block, allowing players to experiment with layers of music featuring “more or less vibrato.”

Lundgren said, “We’re always impressed with the songs players create. It’s been a while since we added a new instrument, and we thought copper and trumpets go together really nicely.”
