Microsoft delivers iCloud Photos support to Windows 11's Photos app
Yesterday, during the Surface event, Microsoft revealed that the Photos app in Windows 11 is gaining support for iCloud Photos. However, this feature will only be available in the Dev Channel for the time being.
The Photos app in Windows 11 only features support for Microsoft's cloud storage solution, namely OneDrive. Thanks to this integration, the user can view images stored on OneDrive without having to open a web browser. Unsurprisingly, the iCloud Photos integration is similar, so those who also use an iPhone will be able to access their photos and videos via the Photos app on their Windows 11-driven PCs. In addition to Windows 11 PCs, access to iCloud Photos content will also be available on Xbox consoles.
Those who want to take the new feature for a spin should install the iCloud app from the Microsoft Store and also have the latest version of the Photos app. In this moment, the version available in the Dev Channel that is rolling out to Windows Insiders and features iCloud Photos integration is 2022.31100.9001.0. On the other hand, the general version available in the Dev Channel is 2022.31100.3006.0.
The good news for everyone is that Microsoft confirmed that the arrival of this feature for everyone is scheduled to take place in November.
Later this year, preview versions of the Apple TV and Apple Music apps will hit the Microsoft Store, while their stable versions should become available in early 2023.
