Meta Quest 2 and Quest Pro receive performance boosts with new stable v55.0 update
Meta has released Quest build 55.0 (v55.0), delivering on promised performance improvements for the Quest 2. Announced earlier this month after presenting the Quest 3, Meta claimed that it had achieved up to 19% GPU and 26% CPU performance increases on the Quest 2. While Meta claims an equivalent CPU speed uplift for the Quest Pro, it quotes an 11% GPU boost for its more expensive headset.
Supposedly, Meta has upped the Quest 2's GPU frequency to 625 MHz. The new speed of the headset's CPU is unknown, though. Originally, its three Gold cores peaked at 1.5 GHz, while its Silver cores were capable of reaching 1.9 GHz. Meta has not detailed the clock speed increases of the Quest Pro, either. Moreover, v55 enables Dynamic Resolution Scaling (DRS), which will require developer implementation in their apps and games.
Also, Meta's new software update introduces a passcode security option, the new Android version of Messenger, multi-touch support for the Quest web browser and a revised Explore tab. Furthermore, Meta asserts that Quest Pro eye tracking will work more accurately after installing v55.0. Please see Meta's release notes for more details.
