Meizu launches the MX4 Ubuntu Edition
Days before launching the new MX5 smartphone, Meizu unveiled the older MX4 model running Ubuntu operating system. The MX4 Ubuntu Edition has been priced at 299 Euro and will be available in Europe starting tomorrow.
What’s interesting - the new phone can only be purchased via an invitation-only scheme on the Meizu website. According to the manufacturer, a certain amount of invites will be generated daily. The idea behind the invitation system has been explained by Cristian Parrino, VP of mobile at Canonical (maker of Ubuntu) as follows: "This is a device for enthusiasts. We want to make sure the right people are buying the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition, for the right reasons".
Specs-wise, the Meizu MX4 UE comes with an octa-core MediaTek MT6595 SoC and a 5.36-inch display with 1920 x 1152 resolution. It features 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of non-expandable storage space on board, as well as a 3100 mAh battery. The main camera uses a 20.7 MP sensor with dual-LED flash while the front shooter allows snapping 2 MP selfies.
