Map Camera is one of Japan's best-known camera retailers. This year, like in previous years, they've published a list of their best-selling cameras. And in 2025, this list features an unexpected top seller – the Kodak PixPro FZ55.
This is an affordable compact camera with a 16 MP sensor, 5x optical zoom, and a built-in xenon flash. While many smartphones technically offer better image quality, compact cameras like this are particularly popular with younger customers due to their retro look. For likely the same reason, the Fujifilm X half secures fifth place.
Featuring a 1-inch sensor and an f/2.8 lens, the Fujifilm X half also falls short of a high-end smartphone. On the other hand, the portrait-orientation sensor and the film roll mode, where a digital film roll must be completed before the photos can be viewed or the style changed, are genuine curiosities on the camera market. With the Fujifilm X100 VI, the Ricoh GR IV, and the Ricoh GR IIIx occupying positions six through eight, three compact cameras with enormous APS-C sensors make it into the top 10.
The most popular interchangeable-lens system camera is the Fujifilm X-M5, which comes in second place, right behind the budget-friendly PixPro FZ55. While the X-M5 lacks an electronic viewfinder, it compensates with a relatively low price for a Fujifilm camera. Third place goes to the Nikon Z5 II, which, with its full-frame sensor, EVF and fast autofocus, is aimed at enthusiasts on a budget. The Fujifilm X-E5 lands in fourth place. The Sony A7c II and the Canon EOS R6 Mark II occupy ninth and tenth places, respectively.
