The Makita MW001G portable microwave has been unveiled. The gadget has a maximum power output of 500 W and is powered by 40 V 8 Ah lithium-ion batteries. You can use the device to heat eleven lunches on a single charge, with settings adjusted via a series of buttons and dials on top of the device.

Makita has revealed the MW001G, a portable microwave. The brand, known for its range of power tools, announced the gadget earlier this year. The device is part of the 40Vmax Series, powered by interchangeable XGT 40 V Max 8 Ah lithium-ion batteries. Makita suggests this provides enough power to heat eleven lunches or warm twenty 200 ml drinks.

You can choose from 500 W and 350 W power outputs; the 500 W mode can only last for eight minutes due to energy consumption. You can use the buttons on top of the device to start the microwave, set a timer for up to 20 minutes and switch between the two power modes. An integrated display shows information such as the time remaining. Plus, the portable gadget has a 2.4 A 5V USB-A output, which allows you to charge your smartphone on the go.

The device's oven measures 255 x 241 x 120 mm (~10.04 x 9.49 x 4.72-in), with an 8 L capacity. Overall, the microwave measures 343 x 318 x 338 mm (~13.50 x 12.52 x 13.31-in) and weighs 8.8 kg (~19.4 lbs). A built-in handle makes the gadget easier to transport, or you can buy a detachable fabric shoulder strap for 1,000 yen (~US$8). The Makita MW001G will launch in Japan for 110,000 yen (~US$840). The company has also teased the gadget on social media pages for New Zealand, suggesting it plans to release the device in other markets. Pricing and exact availability date are yet to be announced.
