Macy's, the famous US retail chain, auctions off Thanksgiving Day Parade NFTs

To commemorate its 95^th Thanksgiving Day Parade, Macy’s is auctioning off a collection of NFTs. There are 10 digital art pieces in the collection. These pieces pay homage to parade balloons from previous decades, going back to the 1920s. The auction will run till November 30, 2021. A portion of the proceeds from the sales will go to Make-A-Wish Foundation. The collection will be auctioned off on Sweet, an NFT marketplace famous for hosting collections from brands such as McLaren Racing and Red Bull Racing

Aside from the auction, Macy’s is also giving away 9500 free NFTs to customers. Pieces included in the giveaway vary depending upon their rarity. According to the company’s website, there are 6636 Classic, 284 Rare, and 20 Ultra Rare NFTs that fans can win. To win one of the free NFTs, all you have to do is create an account on Sweet’s mobile app or the website and you’ll be awarded an NFT randomly. 10% of any future sales of the non-fungible tokens from the giveaway will also go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Furthermore, citing environmental benefits, Macy’s is using Polygon to mint the NFTs. Polygon is a layer-2 blockchain. It is a scalable alternative to the Ethereum blockchain and has lower gas fees and near-instantaneous processing time.
