The industrial PC branch of MSI is readying the MS-C910E Edge AI Box specifically designed for AI inference tasks. This new model comes in a rugged anti-vibration and shock-proof case that has a particular form factor seemingly derived from ITX and is large enough to accommodate three PCIe expansion cards.
It looks like this is a bare bones system integrating only an Intel R680E motherboard with LGA 1700 socket, which supports Intel’s 12th, 13th and 14th gen Core processors. The processor can be complemented by up to 96 GB DDR5-5600 RAM via two SO-DIMM slots with ECC support and the storage side combines an M.2 NVMe/SATA slot with 2x 2.5-inch SATA drive bays. There also are PCIe 4.0 X16, X8 and X1 slots so the system can be equipped with desktop-grade GPUs.
Port selection is tailored for industrial use cases and features 8x USB-A 10 Gbps, 4x COM, 4x 2.5 GbE NICs, 2x HDMI + 2x DisplayPort video outs, dual audio jacks and GPIO 8-bit / 5-35V / Isolation 1.3 KV connectors.
MSI suggests quite a few industrial applications for this system including:
- Smart manufacturing and production automation
- Traffic management, automated toll systems, road condition analyzer and AI-powered signaling systems
- IoT central gateway for sensor data collection and cloud communication
- Security monitoring, intrusion detection and access point management
- Renewable energy farms and power station control
- Warehouse and logistics automation
Also provided with the compact and scalable case is a frontal smart fan, plus the case features support for 6 more fans on top and each of the left and right sides. The case measures 285 x 217 x 431.1 mm and the barebones system weighs 11 kg.
