Okay, that was all for my full review of the new MSI Raider GE68 HX (2023). Needless to say that there’s definitely a lot to love about this gaming beast. Including its design, display, performance, and thermals. Yes, that RTX 4070 issue is a bit concerning but that’s an “NVIDIA issue” and not an “MSI issue”, so we can’t pile it all on MSI anyway. At NPR 388,000, the Raider GE68 HX is quite an overpriced gaming laptop for everything it offers. And looking into alternatives from practically any other major laptop brand, you can find similarly configured gaming laptops for much lower prices. Like the Acer Predator Helios 16 (2023) which has the same RTX 4070 GPU and an even more powerful Core i9-13900HX CPU combo. And unlike the Raider GE68, it also brings Advanced Optimus support.

The Raider GE68HX 13VF is an intriguing if flawed confluence, set apart by its powerful hardware. It may not be the most effective gaming machine you can get for the price, but it makes up for that with a bit of extra curb appeal and a heap of CPU performance that can help it excel as a workstation during the day and gaming machine at night (ideally with an external monitor). The Costco-exclusive model's $1,799 price is one of its more compelling aspects (and its screen one of its least), as the higher-spec configurations will make for unfavorable races with Lenovo’s higher-end Legion laptops.

MSI is doubling down on the design of the 17-inch GE78 for the smaller 16-inch GE68. The new look may not be for everyone, but performance is admirable with some of the fastest CPU and GPU options currently available on any gaming laptop this year.

De MSI Raider GE68HX doet eigenlijk precies wat we vooraf hadden verwacht. Je krijgt top-end specificaties die dankzij hoge power targets ook maximaal presteren, wat enorm fijn is voor games en applicaties, maar uiteraard een beetje ten koste gaat van hoe mobiel zo’n laptop is, plus ook wat geluid maakt als je hem volle bak open zet. Fysiek is het allemaal keurig voor elkaar, ondanks dat ik het design zelf inmiddels wat oubollig over vind komen, maar de inputs zijn erg fijn en de aansluitingen zijn top. Onder de streep is het een erg fijne laptop om mee te werken. Het Mini LED scherm maakt ook indruk, hou alleen rekening met alle voor- en nadelen van alle schermtechnieken gezien er geen “beste” is. Vooral positief ook: de accuduur.
Positive: High performance; impressive mini LED display; very long battery life; great built quality; USB-C charging port. Negative: Old design; heavy and bulky; noisy under loads.

i7-13700HX: Mobile CPU based on the Raptor Lake series that offers 16 cores (8 performance, 8 efficiency cores). Similar to the Desktop Core i7-13700K but with reduced clock speeds.
i9-13950HX: Mobile CPU based on the Raptor Lake series that offers 24 cores (8 performance, 16 efficiency cores) with a Boost core of up to 5.8 GHz for the P-cores. Similar to the Desktop i9-139000K but with reduced clock speeds and TDP.
i7-14700HX: High-end mobile hybrid processor based on the Raptor Lake architecture with 20 cores (8 performance and 12 efficiency cores) and 28 threads.
i9-14900HX: High-end mobile hybrid processor based on the Raptor Lake architecture with 24 cores and 32 threads. Clocks at a maximum of 5.8 GHz (P cores).
