MSI GX680 and GX780 shipping May 30th
Laptop gamers are getting a lot of love this month. Along with the upcoming launch of the Alienware M18x, MSI will be making available two of its own gaming laptops as well, both shipping simultaneously coming May 30th.
First up will be the 15.6-inch MSI GX680, which was announced back in March with a previously unknown launch date. The laptop comes with the MSI TDE (Turbo Drive Engine) feature for overclocking the CPU and RAM along with the Cooler Boost for more efficient cooling. A quick spec sheet overview is provided here:
- Intel Core i7-2630QM CPU
- Nvidia GeForce GT 555M with 1GB GDDR5 VRAM
- 6GB DDR3 RAM
- Up to 1920x1080 resolution screen
- Up to 1.5TB HDD in RAID 0
- Blu-Ray, 2x USB 3.0, 2x USB 2.0, card reader, 2.1ch speakers, HDMI, VGA, 9-cell battery
- 3.5kg (7.7lbs)
The second laptop is the more recently announced 17.3-inch GX780. The specs are similar to the GX680, down to the processor, video card, and dual SATA HDD setup, but the laptop itself will come in a bit heavier at 3.9kg (8.6lbs) with 2 more gigabytes of RAM. What makes this model unique, however, is its gaming-centric keyboard layout designed by manufacturer SteelSeries. The improved tactile feedback and ability to register 10 simultaneously pressed keys will make the laptop perfect for extended gameplay where comfort is of utmost importance. Check out the differences in keyboard layout in the gallery below.
The MSI GX680 and GX780 are now available for pre-order for $1199 and $1399, respectively. Both notebooks will come with a standard 2-year warranty.
