7.7 pound gaming notebook comes with Sandy Bridge i7 processor and NVIDIA GT 555M Graphics

As gaming laptops inch closer towards desktop performance and weight, MSI is helping things out by launching their new GX680 gaming laptop. According to a press release by MSI, the new gaming laptop will feature the latest Sandy Bridge processors while also weighing a hefty 7.7 pounds.

While the GX680 appears to be an updated edition of the GT680, MSI is annoucing it as a new product in their gaming line. The 15.6” behemoth comes with a Core i7 2630QM processor, an NVIDIA GeForce GT 555m, VGA, HDMI and USB 3.0. Taking the GX680 into the ranks of top gaming laptops are an optional Full HD Display with a 1920x1080 pixel resolution, up to 1.5TB of storage courtesy of dual 750GB HDD (Raid 0), an optional Blu-Ray drive and up to 16GB of DDR3 RAM.

The laptop will also come with MSI TDE (Turbo Drive Engine) technology that helps overclock the CPU and memory along with the Cooler Boost technology that helps keeps the machine running cool. And of course it wouldn’t be an MSI gaming laptop if it didn’t come with the full neon light show and Chiclet keyboard like its G series brethren. Unfortunately, MSI hasn’t announced when the laptop is due to hit markets, or how much it will retail for. However, if you plan on lugging one of these beasts on your back all day, then you might want to set something aside for chiropractor fees down the line.
