After the full-size Gravity SUV, Lucid has announced three affordable models designed to take on Tesla and a "distracted" Elon Musk. One of them is the Cosmos SUV, priced as a direct Tesla Model Y competitor but with better specs.

Lucid has now unveiled the price, specs, and release date of its direct Model Y competitor, the Cosmos SUV, as well as Lucid's take on the Cybercab, a Lunar robotaxi.

Previously, Lucid's CEO claimed that Elon Musk had become "distracted" by too many other tasks and that Tesla had begun to lose its technological edge. Lucid will be capitalizing on that by releasing three superior yet affordable vehicles on a new midsize platform.

It has now used its unsurpassed drivetrain efficiency capabilities to craft the promised direct Tesla Model Y competitors and a surprise Cybercab take.

Lucid Cosmos SUV price, specs, and release date

  • Price: under $50,000
  • Release date: Q4 2026
  • Range: 300 miles
  • 0-60 mph acceleration: 3.4 seconds
  • Battery: 69 kWh
  • 800V fast-charging architecture
  • V2H, V2L, V2X, and V2V bi-directional charging technologies
  • NACS charging port
  • 24-inch central display

Lucid is the current EV efficiency champion, and its Cosmos SUV is no exception, being 10% more efficient than the Model Y and able to cover 4.5 miles per kWh of its battery capacity.

This is thanks to Lucid's newest drive unit, which is lighter, cheaper, and at the same time exhibits 40% higher power density than the "closest competitor." Together with a greatly reduced non-cell parts count in the battery housing, the powertrain footprint gains have not only allowed Lucid to make the Cosmos lighter and go further on a smaller battery but also freed up 24% more usable cargo space than its main competitors.

The other new SUV that Lucid will build on the midsize platform is called Earth, as it is "designed to appeal to those with an even more adventurous spirit" in terms of driving dynamics, so it might be a direct take on the Model Y Performance. A third midsized vehicle is also planned, with details to follow.

Lucid Lunar robotaxi specs

  • 6.0 mi/kWh efficiency
  • Charging speed: more than 200 miles in 15 minutes
  • 40% lower operating costs per mile
  • More than 42 inches os legroom for passengers

Lucid won't be leaving the robotaxi race to Tesla, Waymo, or other players either. It presented a direct Tesla Cybercab competitor that will again be built on the new midsize platform of the Cosmos SUV and targets the same record efficiency while leaving more room for passengers thanks to the more compact powertrain.

Lucid already has a big robotaxi customer, Uber, and the Lunar two-seater may be joining its fleet first. "Lucid's unmatched efficiency, autonomy-ready vehicle architectures, and customer-centric approach give us confidence in our ability to deliver autonomous mobility together at a global scale," tips Uber's CEO.

Lucid is now preparing to scale its vehicle production profitably, as it has identified new revenue streams and will pursue "rigorous capital allocation" together with significant manufacturing cost reductions similar to its cheaper but more efficient new Atlas drive unit.
