Lenovo restores missing GPU feature after four months
Just short of three weeks after our original coverage of this issue, Lenovo announced on its product forums new BIOS updates that restored NVENC to German customers. This fix arrived around four months after the original complaints on the forums back in April.
Lenovo's announcement addresses this problem for the following laptops:
- Legion 7 16ACHg6
- Legion 5 Pro 16ACH6H / 16ACH6H
- Legion 5 15ACH6H / 15ACH6
- Legion 5 17ACH6H / 17ACH6
- Legion 5 Pro 16ITH6H / 16ITH6H
- Legion 5 15ITH6H / 15ITH6
- Legion 5 17ITH6H / 17ITH6
These updates specifically fix the "NV_ENC_ERR_UNSUPPORTED_PARAM" error many users have been facing. Any NVENC-related problems in 2020 and 2021 Legion laptops should be resolved with the latest BIOS.
Users can download the latest BIOS update for their Legion laptop via Lenovo Vantage or alternatively from Lenovo's PC Support page.

When I was 9, I tried to modify a PC game. The mod I made worked (mostly) and sparked my current, intense interest in software development. A few years later, that interest led me to experiment with all kinds of tech around the house, which has ultimately given me an eye for small, but substantial, problems in devices and software. I'm now writing articles about technology and its nuances for Notebookcheck.
