Lenovo restores missing GPU feature after four months

After pages of complaints online from Legion laptop owners in Germany, Lenovo has finally returned full GPU functionality to their Legion laptops. The lack of this feature caused many issues, including crashes in certain GPU-accelerated applications.

Just short of three weeks after our original coverage of this issue, Lenovo announced on its product forums new BIOS updates that restored NVENC to German customers. This fix arrived around four months after the original complaints on the forums back in April. 

Lenovo's announcement addresses this problem for the following laptops:

These updates specifically fix the "NV_ENC_ERR_UNSUPPORTED_PARAM" error many users have been facing. Any NVENC-related problems in 2020 and 2021 Legion laptops should be resolved with the latest BIOS. 

Users can download the latest BIOS update for their Legion laptop via Lenovo Vantage or alternatively from Lenovo's PC Support page.
