Reviews for the Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 14ASP G9
Lenovo has equipped its Yoga Pro 7 14 G9 with a new AMD Zen 5 processor in combination with a high-resolution 120-Hz OLED screen. Its performance is great and the same can be said for its picture quality, whereas the laptop's fans can get pretty loud.

This Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 14-inch model in this AMD Ryzen AI implementation is an excellent daily-driver laptop. It's more powerful and better cooled than the average 14-inch option, but at the same time is also a little larger and heavier. This mix allows it to perform excellently on its most efficient power profile, but at the same time potential buyers might have a hard time justifying this bundle, especially at the current prices. That's just how things are with Strix Point laptops, though, at least for now.

Ryzen Ai 300 series processors got off to a bit of a rocky start since many laptops were shipped with low wattage Ryzen AI 9 365 processors. Enter the Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 Gen 9, a thin and light laptop that takes the newest Zen 5 CPU and supercharges performance. Here we test it vs the 8845HS and 7840HS for a true apples to apples comparison.

There’s not a huge amount to say in terms of standout elements of the Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 but the soft-to-touch keyboard is nice, the OLED display is vibrant and punchy and the build quality is good. It’s what is under the hood that counts here again and it will be interesting to see how this AMD-powered device stacks up against the Intel and Qualcomm options.

Model:
The latest to join the Lenovo family is none other than the Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 14 G9. In terms of its design and build, this model combines sleek, professional design with solid performance, making it an appealing choice for users seeking both style and power. Furthermore, its aluminium chassis offers a high level of stability, with only minimal flex in the keyboard area, and the display lid remains sturdy with well-adjusted hinges. The laptop's grey finish is fingerprint-resistant which adds to its clean, minimalist look. It also features a wide 180-degree opening angle, ideal for flexible viewing. Connectivity options include one USB 4.0 port, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port, and a regular USB-A port for everyday use. However, a second USB-C port for charging from both sides would have been a useful addition. The laptop's keyboard has a key travel of 1.5 mm and features two-level backlighting, although key sounds, especially on larger keys, are somewhat loud. The click pad is spacious (13.5 x 8 cm) and smooth, but its mechanical clicks can sound cheap and loud. The standout feature of the Yoga Pro 7 14 G9 has to be its 14.5-inch OLED display (3,072 x 1,920 resolution, 16:10 aspect ratio), offering superb image quality with vibrant colours and fast 120 Hz refresh rate. The OLED panel's contrast ratio and low black value deliver impressive visuals, especially in HDR, where peak brightness reaches up to 604 cd/m². However, the screen exhibits some PWM flickering at 240 Hz across all brightness levels, and brightness or colour temperature cannot be adjusted automatically.
Powering the Yoga Pro 7 is the AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 processor, paired with the Radeon 880M GPU and 32 GB LPDDR5x RAM (non-upgradable). The Ryzen AI 9 365 features a 50 TOPS NPU, meeting Microsoft's Copilot+ standards, though some features may not be fully available until a software update later in the year. The Radeon 880M is efficient for integrated graphics, outperforming the Radeon 890M in gaming benchmarks despite having fewer compute units (10 versus 12). The laptop's performance is steady, with no drop in gaming performance even during extended sessions, and it retains consistent GPU performance when running on battery. In terms of battery life, this device comes with a 73 Wh battery, offering respectable runtimes, though it falls behind some competitors. In WLAN testing at 150 cd/m², it lasts about 8 hours at 120 Hz and just under 9 hours at 60 Hz. Video playback yields close to 11 hours. Charging is swift, with an 85-minute full charge and 80% battery restored in just 44 minutes. Overall, the Yoga Pro 7 14 G9 is an excellent all-rounder for productivity, content creation, and casual gaming. Its OLED display and robust Ryzen AI-powered performance make it an attractive choice, though its battery life could be improved compared to rival devices.

AMD Radeon 880M: A fairly powerful RDNA 3.5 architecture iGPU that debuted in June 2024 and a direct successor to the Radeon 780M. Its 12 CUs/WGPs (768 unified shaders) run at up to 2,900 MHz. DX12 Ultimate, ray tracing, AI image generation and other modern features are all supported here, as are many popular video codecs including first and foremost AVC, HEVC, VP9 and AV1. Its gaming performance is good enough for playing 2024 games such as Once Human and The First Descendant at 1080p on low graphics settings.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.
