Lenovo outfits its cheaper ThinkPad E series with a newer, thinner chassis that uses more aluminum. That seems like an improvement, but in reality it also means the loss of several features. Apart from that, the Lenovo ThinkPad E14 is a lot like its predecessor Lenovo ThinkPad E490.

When it comes to a comparison with the HP ProBook 440 G7, one of its main opponents, it is strongly subjective what to choose. It could be the industrial package that will drive you towards this device, or you would prefer the stylish outfit of the HP. Also, the ProBook 440 G7 has an SD card reader, but ThinkPad E14’s fingerprint reader is better, as it saves your fingerprint on pressing the Power button and then sends it to the OS when it’s time to log in.

The Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 is a great productivity-focused laptop. It has good build quality, the CPU performs well, decent array of ports, it supports USB-C PD charging, it’s surprisingly light to bring around, the speakers are surprisingly great, and the fingerprint scanner is both fast and reliable. However, there is no SD card reader built in, no touchscreen support either, the display is a little underwhelming, and the keyboard has no backlighting option.

It may look the same on the outside, but several motherboard changes help to make the ThinkPad E14 G6 faster, longer-lasting, and even more versatile than the outgoing version.

The ThinkPad E14 Gen 6 is a solid budget productivity laptop from one of the most trusted lines of business-oriented laptops on the market. It's not the sleekest laptop on the block, but it's a reliable workhorse with respectable hardware and a design philosophy spanning multiple decades. I recommend the E14 Gen 6 if you're looking for a reliable productivity machine under $1,000. If you want a laptop with 32GB of RAM and 1TB or more of storage, I would suggest springing for one of the more premium business machines like the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, which has an OLED display, better webcam, and more robust form factor.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" from English legend, novo (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. As of 2004, the company was the largest laptop manufacturer in China and, after acquiring IBM's PC division in 2005, the fourth largest in the world. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company manufactures monitors, projectors, servers, etc, and specializes in developing, manufacturing and marketing consumer electronics, personal computers, software, enterprise solutions and related services.
In 2016, the company ranked first in the world in computer sales. It still held it in 2023 with about 23% global market share. Important product lines are Thinkpad, Legion and Ideapad.
In 2011, it acquired a majority stake in Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Motorola Mobility was purchased, which gave Lenovo a boost in the smartphone market.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
Intel UHD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2, 24 EUs) found on some Kaby-Lake-Refresh CPU models (15 W ULV series). Technically identical to the previous Kaby-Lake GPU called HD Graphics 620.
AMD Vega 6: Integrated graphics adapter of the Ryzen APUs based on the Vega architecture with 6 CUs (= 384 shaders) and a clock of up to 1,500 MHz.
Intel Graphics 4-Core: Integrated graphics card based on the Xe LPG architecture (similar to the dedicated Arc GPUs, but with a focus on efficiency). Provides 4 Xe cores (64 Xe vector engines) and 4 ray tracing units.

Intel Comet Lake:
i5-10210U: Comet Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Whiskey Lake and still produced in 14nm++). The CPU cores can clock between 1.6 and 4.2 GHz (all 4 cores 3.9 GHz max.) with HyperThreading (8 threads). The integrated memory controller supports LPDDR4-2933 and using cTDP up/down the performance can be adjusted by the OEM (10 - 25 Watt possible, 15W default). Compared to the faster i5-10510U, the level 3 cache was reduced from 8 to 6 MB.
i7-10510U: Comet Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Whiskey Lake and still produced on 14nm++). The CPU cores can clock between 1.8 and 4.9 GHz (all 4 cores 4.3 GHz max.) with HyperThreading (8 threads). The integrated memory controller supports DDR4-2666 and using cTDP up/down the performance can be adjusted by the OEM (10 - 25 Watt possible, 15W default).
AMD Renoir (Ryzen 4000 APU):
R5 4500U: An upper mid-range, hexa-core APU designed for use in thinner, lighter laptops. The Ryzen features Zen 2 CPU cores running at 2.3 GHz to 4.0 GHz along with the Vega 6 graphics adapter (6 x 64 = 384 unified shaders). The thread-doubling SMT technology is not enabled in the case of Ryzen 5 4500U.
Intel Meteor Lake-U:
Ultra 7 155U: A mid-range Meteor Lake chip that debuted in December 2023. This 1st Gen Core Ultra processor has come to replace 13th generation Core processors; it has 12 cores (2 + 8 + 2) and 14 threads at its disposal. Its Performance cores, of which there are 2, run at up to 4.8 GHz while its Efficient cores, of which there are 10 (8 main cores plus 2 extra ones found in the Low Power Island) run at up to 3.8 GHz. The 4-core Intel Arc Graphics, just out of the oven, serves as the integrated graphics adapter - this runs at up to 1.95 GHz - and there is a bevy of other brand-new technologies on offer as well including the integrated AI Boost NPU with two Gen 3 engines for hardware AI workload acceleration. This laptop processor's Base power consumption is 15 W, with 57 W being its maximum Intel-recommended Turbo power consumption.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.
