Deal | Lenovo IdeaPad 5 14 with Ryzen 7 4700U, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, and 1080p display now down to $817 USD
Lenovo's latest mid-range Ultrabook is now $40 off when applying the code 'EXTRAFIVE' for a final price of $817 before taxes. The IdeaPad 5 sits right in between the lower-end IdeaPad 3 series and higher-end IdeaPad Slim 7 series to be a good solution for travelers or students on tighter budgets.
This particular deal is notable because the IdeaPad 5 sports a metal chassis to be closer to its more expensive siblings rather than the cheaper alternatives that usually come in plastic. Additionally, its Ryzen 7 4700U CPU has proven to be faster than even the latest Core i7-1065G7 or Core i7-8565U which can be found on laptops retailing for $1000 or more. In other words, users are getting a sleek 1080p subnotebook with Core i7-level performance without needing to pay four digits.
The main drawbacks to the laptop are its mediocre colors and soldered RAM. While the latter shouldn't be much of an issue as 16 GB will be sufficient for browsing or video streaming loads, the display suffers from poor colors. Our measurements reveal that gamut covers just 56 percent of sRGB compared to over 90 percent on the pricier IdeaPad Slim 7, HP Spectre, or Dell XPS series. Thus, colors appear shallower and not as vibrant as a result. You may want to avoid this system if you plan on doing any professional digital graphics work.
Users who don't want the Ryzen 7 configuration can go with the Ryzen 5 4500U configuration instead with half the RAM and storage for $617 after applying the same code.
