Leaked photos show the presumed designs of Apple's next-generation iPad Pro and iPad mini tablets
Sonny Dickson has shared photos of what he claims are dummy iPad mini and iPad Pro tablets for 2021. As expected, the refreshed 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros are the spitting images of the current models. One of Dickson's photos shows that the updated Pro tablets will have three rear-facing cameras, eschewing the LiDAR sensors found in last year's pair. It appears that the new tablets have the same camera housing as their predecessors, though.
The 12.9-inch dummy lacks a Smart Connector for some reason, but we would expect this to make its way to the final product. Apple is thought to have equipped its new iPad Pro tablets with an A14X SoC though, so this year's models should receive a performance boost compared to their A12Z-powered predecessors. Apparently, the A14X may get close to the M1's performance, which would be a coup for a tablet-class SoC.
The biggest surprise here is the iPad mini dummy, which also resembles the current model. Previously, @xleaks7 had claimed that the next iPad mini would receive a design refresh, making it resemble a smaller iPad Air. @xleaks7 still believes this, as the 3D-printed model below shows. Similarly, Mark Gurman asserted that the next iPad mini would have a larger display than the current model, which contradicts Dickson's dummy image. According to Jon Prosser, Apple plans to reveal its new iPad mini and iPad Pro tablets this month.
