Leaked Ryzen 5 7600X3D price could make Ryzen 5 9600X tough sell for gamers

We reported a few days ago that AMD might launch the Ryzen 9000X3D chips in October to compete with the upcoming Intel Arrow Lake CPUs. But, it now appears that Team Red has pushed back the Zen 5 X3D to CES 2025. In the absence of any Zen 5 X3D parts, AMD could be banking on the upcoming Ryzen 5 7600X3D to fill the gap.

Per a leak which appeared on X, the Ryzen 5 7600X3D is launching in September. Supplementing this information, we now know the possible price of the CPU.

Ryzen 5 7600X3D price

According to Moore’s Law Is Dead, the Ryzen 5 7600X3D price is currently set to $249 a the final retail pricing likely coming below $300. The information comes from one of MLID’s distributor sources.

The source also alleged that AMD is reserving most of the supply for OEMs and system integrators. So, the DIY market may see a limited launch with a constrained supply.

Finally, the source also reported that the Ryzen 5 7600X3D release date is set for “the first half of Sept”. This means that the chip could hit shelve before the arrival of Intel Arrow Lake.

Ryzen 5 7600X3D specifications  

While MILD’s source didn’t reveal any detailed specs for the Ryzen 5 7600X3D, the source did allege that the chip has a 65 W TDP, matching the Ryzen 5 7600 and the Ryzen 5 9600X. We can also conjecture that the chip is going to have 96 MB of total L3 cache since the 6-core part is most likely a binned down Ryzen 7 7800X3D (Available on Amazon).

Finally, judging from past X3D chips, the Ryzen 5 7600X3D will probably have reduced clock speeds. For instance, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D has a base and boost clock speed deficit of 300 and 400 MHz respectively vs the Ryzen 7 7700X.

Ryzen 5 7600X3D could give the Ryzen 5 9600X some trouble

There is no question that when the Ryzen 5 7600X3D eventually comes out, it will be considerably behind the Ryzen 5 9600X in multi-core performance as it has always been the case for X3D chips. However, the Ryzen 5 7600X3D could give the Ryzen 5 9600X a lot of trouble when it comes to gaming.

For starters, the Ryzen 5 7600X3D could match or exceed the gaming performance offered by the Ryzen 5 9600X. The 6-core Zen 5 part is only around 3% better than the Ryzen 5 7600X per our Performance Rating for games. This is a rather small gap that the Ryzen 5 7600X3D should, ideally, have no trouble closing.

Furthermore, since the Ryzen 5 7600X3D is also a 65 W chip like the Ryzen 5 9600X, the Zen 5 chip is unlikely to enjoy any efficiency advantage.

Finally, if the Ryzen 5 7600X3D ends up costing around $249, the chip will undercut the Ryzen 5 9600X by $30 as the Zen 5 chip costs $279.

All of these factors combined will make the Ryzen 5 9600X a tough sell for anyone looking for a budget-friendly 6-core gaming CPU.
