Leak suggests that the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition will come with a 12MP IMX555 sensor
While the rumor mill is abuzz with speculations surrounding the Galaxy Note 20 series, there have been several mentions of the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition. The device is slated to be an affordable flagship with a sub-$1,000 price. Cameras are often the first components sacrificed to reduce costs, and we now know a little more about the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition's camera array.
Prolific leaker Ice Universe just Tweeted that the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition will come with the Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20's 12MP Sony IMX555 sensor. Initial reports indicated that the device would come with Samsung's latest 50MP ISOCELL GN1. Samsung likely ditched the latter at the last minute, hoping to cut costs. Furthermore, the ISOCELL GN1 also has the potential to outperform the Galaxy S20's ISOCELL GW2 sensor, and the last thing Samsung wants is for its 'affordable' flagship to beat the 'real deal'. Lastly, Samsung is known to test its newer sensors out in the wild before using them on their own devices.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition's primary IMX555 sensor will reportedly be assisted by a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens and an 8MP telephoto lens. If its predecessor -the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite- is anything to go by, the phone will ship with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 exclusively. Given the performance difference between Qualcomm's 2020 flagship and the Exynos 990, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition is an excellent alternative for those who want the quintessential Samsung experience without having to spend a lot of money for it.
