The iPhone 8 has long been rumored to feature some kind of curved OLED screen that would differentiate the much-awaited device from the competition by having the whole front of the phone as the screen. The front was initially said to feature the fingerprint scanner built into the glass (now it is known to be in the back) and the camera would be integrated into the glass. A redditor (handle "kamikasky") alleges that his friend who works in the industry sent him photos of the new iPhone's finalized casing.
What's the surprise? Well, those who expected something that would blow the Galaxy S8 or Essential Phone out of the water will be quite disappointed. In fact, there's something very familiar-looking about the design — and it doesn't call to mind Apple. "Chinese manufacturers got these last week," claims Kamikasky of the front panel, which features a very thin bezel (of around 2mm) encircling the display around the sides and bottom and a thick black bar on the top of the phone for cameras and sensors. The Essential Phone was criticized by some for the black cutout in the screen for the front camera, but the iPhone 8 looks like it will have an even more obtrusive section of screen covered.
Still, it's an improvement on the Galaxy S8 and (especially) the iPhone 7 in terms of screen-to-body ratio.
