Latest AirPods 3 leak confirms AirPods Pro-like redesign, tips improved audio, longer battery life, March 23 launch
Apple’s AirPods 3 seem to be edging ever closer to release with a fresh leak confirming an AirPods Pro-like design refresh. While the current second-generation AirPods 2 are still very popular with customers, a key complaint since its design was introduced has been their tendency not to fit all ears equally well and fall out. The AirPods 3 redesign looks to address this with a new shape that points the sound more directly into a user’s ear.
While the new AirPods 3 redesign looks quite similar to the AirPods Pro, they will quite definitely sit below the more expensive model in Apple’s earbuds lineup with the omission of at least a couple of key features found on the AirPods Pro. This includes saving costs by omitting the silicone ear tips that come with the AirPods Pro to ensure an optimal seal. Also reserved for the AirPods Pro will be Apple’s active noise-cancelling tech.
The rumor mill does, however, point to upgrades in other areas beyond the improved design. This includes an upgraded audio chip for better sound, although it remains almost certain that support for hi-res audio formats like aptX Adaptive or LDAC won’t be supported. Another area that could be in for an upgrade is overall battery life. You won’t need to wait much longer for the AirPods 3 to hit the market either, with rumors pointing to a March 23 launch.
