One of the lightest 15-inch notebooks money can buy is the LG Gram 15Z980. Weighing in at just 1.1 kg, the system is almost half the weight of the competing Dell XPS 15. Now, rumors are swirling about the potential for a 17-inch model coming sooner rather than later.
An FCC file belonging to LG was recently discovered explicitly mentioning the model names "17Z990", "17ZD990", "17ZB990", "17ZG990", and "17Z99". When considering that the current iteration of the 13-inch Gram is "13Z980" and the 15-inch version is "15Z980", it's safe to say that the FCC file is referring to unannounced 17-inch Gram SKUs. The potential for a proper unveiling at CES 2019 is certainly a possibility.
Should LG go the 17-inch route, we can only hope that the company improves upon some glaring weaknesses of the existing 13-inch and 15-inch Gram models. For example, we found the lids of both the 13-inch and 15-inch models to be very flexible while the spongy keyboard keys of the 13-inch model are no match against the XPS series. We'll just have to wait and see if the supposed 17-inch model will be a full chassis redesign or just another iteration of the same chassis that we're already familiar with.
