LG Pay launch delayed until next year

Apple Pay mobile payments service to get a competitor from LG next year

Although expected to arrive this year, LG Pay is now scheduled to launch in 2017, apparently due to issues encountered during testing in South Korea.

LG Pay was supposed to launch next to the V20 handset, but it looks like that is not going to happen anymore. The LG V20 smartphone will hit the South Korean market this week, on September 29, but the mobile payment service will apparently become available in 2017.

According to a report by NewsOne, quote by ZDNet, "LG Electronics has delayed the launch of LG Pay to next year due to problems during testing in Korea." The report reveals that the main culprit is the plan to make LG Pay work with the White Card physical card. This would have credit card and debit card info save on it, connecting to supported handsets via NFC.

While LG is said to have completed the LG Pay White Card development already, the errors faced during testing have forced the company to delay the launch of the service. Since LG still has to file for the regulatory approval of this service, remains to see if they manage to launch it in early 2017 or later during the year.
