Kobo Aura H2O waterproof e-reader hits the FCC
As more and more waterproof smartphones hit the market, other categories of products follow this trend as well and, next to waterproof tablets, e-readers that can handle water without taking damage are the next in line. Kobo Aura HD will soon get a waterproof successor, namely the Kobo Aura H2O, a device which has been recently spotted on the FCC website.
While most specs and features of the upcoming Kobo Aura H2O e-reader are still under embargo, there are three things already confirmed by the FCC filings: the device has a 6.8-inch screen, comes with microSD support, and got its WiFi certification. Its predecessor, the Kobo Aura HD, has a 1 GHz processor and a 6.8-inch Pearl HD E-ink screen with 1,440X1,080 pixels.
Kobo's hardware partner Netronix revealed a 6.8-inch e-reader with a Wacom touchscreen which ran Android 4.1 Jelly Bean a few weeks ago. Remains to see if that prototype will launch as the Kobo Aura H2O or this is a whole new device. Unfortunately, it is not known yet when will it be officially announced.
