The first premium waterproof e-ink e-reader in the world has a 6.8-inch HD screen, offers up to two months of autonomy and can be pre-ordered starting today, while retail stores will get it on October 1st.

Kobo Aura H2O was spotted earlier this month on the FCC website and now it is already official. According to Kobo's press release, this is "the world’s first premium waterproof E Ink eReader" which allows its users to enjoy ebooks "anywhere they want to read, including previously risky places like the bath or at the beach."

Thanks to its waterproof design which is IP67-certified, Kobo Aura H2O can spend up to 30 minutes in about 3 feet of water without taking any damage, as long as the port cover is closed. This e-reader features a no-glare 6.8-inch screen with 1,430X1,080 pixels and 265 dpi, 1 GHz processor, 4 GB of internal storage and microSD support for up to 32 GB more, while its battery can offer up to two months of autonomy on a single charge (this is based on 30 minutes of daily usage with ComfortLight turned on or off and Wi Fi turned off).

Kobo Aura H2O also comes loaded with Chess and Sudoku, while the books are being stored safely in the cloud and can be retrieved at any time via WiFi or micro USB. The free Kobo apps can be run on all major platforms - iOS and Mac OS X, any Windows device, Android, and BlackBerry 10

This waterproof e-reader will be available in black and has a MSRP of $179.99 USD/CAD. Select retailers accept pre-orders already, while www.Kobo.com will accept them in the US and Canada starting on September 1.
