Intel claims Lunar Lake's Arc 140V iGPU outperforms Radeon 890M by 16%
The Intel Lunar Lake series of processors is now official, with laptops featuring the new Core Ultra 200 series expected to be launched later this month. Compared to Meteor Lake, Intel says that the new chips bring upgrades across the board, especially in terms of the iGPU.
To be specific, Intel claims that the Arc 140V iGPU of Core Ultra 9 288V is 31% better than the 8-core Arc Xe LPG of Meteor Lake. The company also claims that this integrated GPU is the fastest in the market, with a 16% lead over the Radeon 890M of AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370.
Intel has offered a detailed comparison between the Arc 140V and the top-end RDNA 3.5 iGPU, in which the company compares the two iGPUs in 23 games. The Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 is shown to be taking the lead in some games, but overall, the iGPU of Core Ultra 9 288V takes the win.
Moreover, Intel says that the Lunar Lake iGPU can deliver the fastest performance in ray tracing. The company shows data from five games in this segment, and the Arc 140V has a noticeable lead across all of them. All this could mean tighter competition in the gaming handheld market.
MSI has already confirmed that the Claw 8 AI+ is on the way, and an Intel Core Ultra 200V processor will power it. Acer could also be preparing to introduce its first gaming handheld that could potentially be powered by a Lunar Lake chip. There could be more announcements in the coming days.
If these feature a processor with the Arc 140V and Intel delivers, gaming handhelds like the ROG Ally X (available on Best Buy) and upcoming AMD Strix Point offerings could finally have a proper Intel competitor.
