Information about Intel's upcoming 14th-gen processors has been steadily trickling in over the past few weeks ahead of its October 2023 launch. An earlier leak talked about how the Core i7-14700K fares against its predecessor. Overall, it is slated to be up to 15% faster than its predecessor. Now, the key specifications of three 14th-generation Intel CPUs have been revealed (via Benchlife, Videocardz).
Starting with the flagship Intel Core i9-14900K, one gets a total of 24 cores and 32 threads (8P + 16E). It has a base clock of 3.2 GHz and can boost up to 6.0 GHz with a base TDP of 125 Watts and 36 MB of cache. At first glance, it looks like a rebadged Core i9-13900KS, but some under-the-hood tweaks could help it stand out.
Next up, the Core i7-14700K packs 8P and 12E cores (20c/28t). It can boost up to 5.6 GHz, has 33 MB L3 cache and has a TDP of 125 Watts. It is the only SKU of the lot that ups the core/thread count over its predecessor. Initial tests portray it to be up to 15% faster than the Core i7-13700K, but the final figure will likely be higher.
Lastly, the mid-range Core i5-14600K is a 6-core, 12-thread processor with a 24 MB cache and a base clock of 3.5 GHz. This will likely be the most sought-after SKU of the lot by mid-range PC enthusiasts, and it'll be interesting to see how much of a performance uplift it brings. While the recently-unveiled Ryzen 5 5600X3D is a better choice, it is hamstrung by limited availability.
