Imagination Technologies revealed two PowerVR GPU families earlier today, ensuring future coverage of the entire market. These families are the Series7XT, aimed at mid-range and high-end devices while cheap tablets, smartphones, and wearables will be soon powered by the Series7XE graphics chips.
According to the official blog posts that unveiled these two new families of GPUs, PowerVR Series7XT chips are up to 60 percent faster than their Series6XT predecessors. The members of this family are GT7200, GT7400, GT7600, GT7800, GT7900. Their list of features includes hardware tessellation, OpenGL 4.4 and OpenGL ES 3.1 & AEP, RenderScript, Open CL 1.2 FP, as well as DirectX 11.
The PowerVR Series7XE only consists of two chips, namely GE7400 and GE7800. Imagination Technologies claims that PowerVR GE7400 is the smallest GPU with support for Lollipop's Android Extension Pack (OpenGL ES 3.1, tessellation and fragment shaders). Additional features include static texture compression and a frame buffer.
First devices to feature Series7XT and Series7XE GPUs should arrive in the second half of 2015.
