Huawei begins EMUI 12 open beta testing in Europe with the Mate 30 Pro, Mate 40 Pro and the P40 series
Huawei has open beta testing for EMUI 12, over two months after the company announced its new smartphone OS. Based on Huawei's teasers until now, EMUI 12 contains a new font, more shadows and softer gradients than in EMUI 11, along with a revised Control Panel menu. It remains unclear on what version of Android Huawei has based EMUI 12, though.
Nonetheless, EMUI 12 can be downloaded on the following five devices; Huawei intends to roll out EMUI 12 to devices as old as the Mate 10 series, for reference.
- Mate 30 Pro
- Mate 40 Pro
- P40
- P40 Pro
- P40 Pro Plus
To install EMUI 12, you must install Huawei's Friendly User Test (FUT) app, which is available from Huawei's website. According to Huawei's German website, beta testing registration will be open until 07:00 UTC on November 21. Huawei is not expected to release stable versions of EMUI 12 until 1H 2022, so these early open betas could be rough around the edges. Hence, we would recommend backing up your device before you install EMUI 12.
