Honor 30S

Honor has finally launched its first phone of the flagship Honor 30 series, and it is none other than the Honor 30S. While it is not a flagship-grade phone, the Honor 30S boasts a premium design and packs impressive specs. As far as the display is concerned, this device has been equipped with a 6.5-inch display with a 1080 x 2400 resolution and a 90.3 percent screen-to-body ratio. In terms of its performance, the Honor 30S is the first phone to be equipped with Huawei’s new Kirin 820 5G chipset, which comes with a built-in 5G modem supporting both SA and NSA networks. It uses a total of four ARM Cortex-A76 cores clocked at up to 2.36 GHz, four ARM Cortex-A55 cores clocked at up to 1.84 GHz, and a Mali-G57 MC6 GPU. The modem is known to use less power while transmitting more data, thanks to AI scheduling algorithms. The Honor 30S runs on Android 10 with the Magic UI 3.1.1 custom skin on top. Apart from that, the device has been equipped with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. However, the storage can be expanded by up to 256GB via an NM card.

As far as the camera setup is concerned, the Honor 30S comes with a four-camera setup that includes a single 64-megapixel primary snapper with f/1.8 aperture, an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera, a 2-megapixel macro camera along with an 8-megapixel telephoto lens which  allows for 2x optical zoom, 5x hybrid zoom and 20x digital zoom. Apart from the rear camera setup, there is also a single 16-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture that handles selfies and video calls. The front camera is housed in a hole-punch drilled into the top-left corner of the display. In terms of its battery, the Honor 30S has been equipped with a 4,000mAh battery with 40W wired fast charging, but there is no wireless charging provided. As far as the battery is concerned, the company even stated that it only takes around 30 minutes for the battery to be charged to 70 percent. This definitely reduces the need for frequent recharging and improves the overall user experience.

Apart from that, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor has been included in this device for authentication. The Honor 30S also includes a proximity sensor, an accelerometer, an ambient light sensor, a gyroscope and a compass. However, it should be noted that the Honor 30S does not support Google Mobile Services, such as the Play Store, but instead relies on the Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) core. This might turn out to be a disappointment for some users, although the phone definitely has a lot to offer if given a shot. The Honor 30S comes in three colours, namely Black, Green and White, for users to choose from depending on personal choice and preference.

In 2014 Huawei created the sub brand Honor and offers certain smartphone series under this name. Occasionally the products are also called Huawei Honor.

The market share of Honor products is manageable, but there are several reviews on Honor smartphones with average ratings (as of 2016).

Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

ARM Mali-G76 MP16: Integrated graphics card based on the second generation of the Bifrost architecture. Uses 16 of the 20 possible clusters and according to ARM offers twice the performance per cluster than the old Mali-G72. It is used in the Kirin 990 5G and according to Huawei should be about 6% faster and 20% more efficient than a Adreno 640 in a Snapdragon 855.

ARM Mali-G57 MP6: Integrated mid range graphics card with 6 clusters. Based on the Valhall architecture.

ARM Mali-G77 MP11: Integrated graphics card based on the Valhall architecture. Uses 11 of the 16 possible clusters and according to ARM offers 30% better performance at 30% better efficiency compared to a Mali-G76.

These graphics cards are not suited for Windows 3D games. Office and Internet surfing however is possible.
